Long distance relationships- My views

Up until a few years ago, I didn't think long distance relationships were worth while, I thought that they were silly and could never work. How can you be in love with someone and have a solid relationship when they live miles and miles away? This was spurred on by watching my sister enter into long distance relationships and watching first hand how badly they can go. Ok, so maybe it wasn't all down to the distance but heartless people that are out there. Isn't that right Steve from Portsmouth and Danny from Scotland?

I think it's fair to say that I didn't feel as though a long distance relationship was something for me.

That was until I met my other half. We live exactly 36.4 miles away from each other, that 52 minutes driving, 40 minutes on a train, or 9 hours 51 minutes walking. Which I know doesn't sound that far, but when you want to spend every second of every day with someone, it feels like a eternity. Also, due to our work schedules, we don't get to see each other for long at a time, which means that the 2 hours spent travelling is a large chunk of time wasted.

The point of this is not to make you feel sorry for me, or to think compared to you the distance is nothing, its to simply put my views across about these types of relationships.

The main thing that comes to mind is how much I miss my other half, all day, everyday is spent thinking about him and counting down to when I next get to see him.

Then there's the days that I need a hug, or he needs a hug, and we can't be there for each other physically.

You best not get me started on how much planning and communication is involved on something as simple as a day out.

But ultimately, despite all the bad things, I wouldn't change the struggles that we have had in getting to were we are now. I think in the 2 years that we have spoke every single day we have got much closer than we other wise would of. And that feeling after not seeing him for a while... nothing beats it.

Being in a long distance relationship makes you cherish every second that you get together. I know that wherever life will take us we are a solid couple and together we can get through anything because we have got through the struggles of being apart for so long.
